Jason Kintzler is the Founder and CEO of PitchEngine, a social platform that enables PR to effectively package stories featuring social content to better collaborate with journalists, bloggers and influencers worldwide. He’s a former print and broadcast journalist turned PR pro and now, entrepreneur. He speaks about branding, public relations and social media and writes about life as a Wyoming web startup on his blog, New Media Cowboy. Retiring the Word Doc: How social media killed the press release
The press release is a century-old piece of technology. Since its inception, it's provided plug-and-play content for journalist and broadcasters worldwide. We've been taught that AP style is a necessity, but is it? In a new world of one-line text messages, 140 character tweets and gritty Facebook posts, why are we still creating seven paragraph press releases to share our news? It's high time to retire the Word doc.
